One Ocean Scuba: Regenerative Diving Program

Regenerative Diving Partnership

At One Ocean Scuba, we believe scuba diving should do more than explore the ocean—it should help restore and protect marine ecosystems. Sustainability is at the heart of our mission, which is why we created our Regenerative Diving Program. Unlike traditional dive tourism, regenerative diving focuses on actively rebuilding coral reefs and marine habitats, leaving each dive site healthier than before.

Through this initiative, we connect certified divers with local and global conservation partners who are making measurable, science-based impacts on reef recovery.

Coral Reef Restoration with Mother of Corals in Panama

One Ocean Scuba has partnered with Mother of Corals, a nonprofit based in Bocas del Toro, Panama, to offer a hands-on coral reef restoration diving experience. This unique eco-dive program allows divers to participate directly in rebuilding damaged reefs while learning coral propagation and restoration techniques from local experts.

Every dive contributes to real conservation outcomes—turning underwater exploration into meaningful action.

Core Focus of the Mother of Corals Partnership

Active Coral Restoration
Divers assist with coral harvesting, reef structure construction, coral outplanting, and long-term monitoring.

Education and Ocean Stewardship
Participants gain practical knowledge of coral ecology, reef restoration science, and climate impacts on marine ecosystems.

Local Community Support
The program provides sustainable income, training, and leadership opportunities for coastal residents in Bocas del Toro.

Low-Impact, Sustainable Diving
Divers practice neutral buoyancy, no-touch techniques, and reef-safe gear habits to minimize environmental impact.

Long-Term Environmental Benefits
Restored reefs increase biodiversity, resilience, and ecosystem health for decades to come.

This partnership represents regenerative diving in action—divers leaving every reef better than they found it.

The Future of Scuba Diving Is Regenerative

Scuba diving has always connected us to the ocean. Now, it can also help heal it. By joining One Ocean Scuba’s Regenerative Diving Program and supporting initiatives like Mother of Corals, you become part of a growing global movement to restore coral reefs, protect marine biodiversity, and preserve healthy oceans for future generations of divers.

Mother of Corals Revive: Reef Restoration Program

Founded in 2020 by Krista Shoe, Mother of Corals is a nonprofit organization dedicated to coral reef restoration in Panama’s Caribbean archipelago. Their mission combines education, community empowerment, and direct reef restoration action.

The organization trains local residents and visiting divers to:

  • Build artificial reef structures that mimic natural coral habitats

  • Propagate coral fragments in nurseries and outplant them onto degraded reefs

  • Monitor reef health, coral growth, and marine biodiversity

  • Support local sustainability through eco-tourism and marine education

This approach creates a self-sustaining model for coral restoration, benefiting both marine ecosystems and local communities.

Inside the Revive Program: A Hands-On Coral Restoration Experience

The Revive: Reef Restoration Program welcomes divers and snorkelers of all experience levels. Participants take part in active, science-based reef restoration, including:“Coral reef restoration diving in Bocas del Toro, Panama”

  • Constructing and installing eco-friendly reef structures

  • Collecting coral fragments and learning coral nursery techniques

  • Transplanting nursery-grown coral onto restoration sites

  • Recording data on coral growth, fish populations, and water quality

  • Learning how ocean warming and climate change affect coral health

These immersive activities make conservation tangible—allowing participants to directly support reef recovery through measurable action.

Why Coral Reef Restoration Matters

Healthy coral reefs protect coastlines, support fisheries, and provide habitat for thousands of marine species. However, reefs worldwide are declining due to climate change, pollution, and overfishing.

Coral restoration helps deliver:

  • Increased marine biodiversity and stronger fish populations

  • Improved coastal resilience against storms and erosion

  • Sustainable eco-tourism opportunities for local communities

  • Greater awareness of ocean conservation among divers
